Teens from the Boys & Girls Club of Portage Co. are on their way to the nation’s capital.
Departing by coach bus early morning on Monday, 40 youngsters in grades 7-12, all members of the club’s Teen Center, were chosen through an application process for the all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C.
The trip was made possible by the Herb Kohl Education Foundation, according to a news release from the BGC.
Teens will visit the White House, World War II Memorial, Library of Congress, and the Holocaust Museum. Students will also have a chance to speak with State Senator Tammy Baldwin.
“We want young people to see history come alive, expand their horizons and imagine themselves as our future leaders, and most of all, be ready to take their place as responsible, productive citizens of this great nation,” said Herb Kohl, who served as Wisconsin State Senator between 1989 and 2013. “Whether it’s the trip of a lifetime or a life-changing trip, we encourage and support Boys & Girls Club kids in their Learning Journey.”
Club teens will return to Stevens Point Friday, July 26.
