Boys & Girls Club launches free summer meal program

The Boys & Girls Club of Portage Co. has launched a summer lunch program for kids.
The Summer Food Service Program is funded in part by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, according to a news release from the BGC. The program provides healthy meals to children and teens during the summer when free and reduced-price school meals are typically unavailable.
Free meals will be available to kids aged 18 years and under, although some physically or mentally handicapped adults who participate in school programs may also be eligible.
The program kicks off on June 13 at the Berard Center, Plover Center, Teen Center, Madison View Extension, Jefferson Elementary School Center, Junction City Extension, Rosholt Extension, and Amherst Extension.
Kevin Quevillon, executive director of the BGC, said the program fills a real need during the summer months.
“Our summer meal program fills a void created when school lunches are not available. Parents are able to drop their children off at the club this summer and know that they will receive a free, delicious breakfast, lunch, snack, and great care from club staff,” he said.
