STEVENS POINT — The Wisconsin Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) program is hosting an “Introduction to Archery and Shotguns” workshop on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Bill Cook Izaak Walton League property, located just east of Stevens Point.
The workshop, designed to be both safe and enjoyable, aims to introduce participants to recreational shooting with compound bows, crossbows, and shotguns. Attendees will receive hands-on instruction in firearm safety and shooting principles from certified instructors. The course will include one-on-one coaching to help participants become familiar with the various firearms and bows.
No prior experience is necessary, and all equipment, including bows, firearms, ammunition, and protective gear, will be provided. The workshop is tailored for beginners but is also suitable for those looking to refresh their shooting skills. It offers a unique opportunity to learn in a supportive environment alongside other women.
The registration fee for the workshop is $125, which includes lunch. With only nine spots available, interested individuals are encouraged to secure their place by contacting Peggy Farrell at 715-346-4681.
The Bill Cook Chapter of the Izaak Walton League spans 147 acres of managed forest, with the scenic Plover River running through the property. The on-site Conservation Center offers meeting space and modern restrooms.
BOW workshops focus on teaching outdoor skills, with activities balanced between hunting and shooting, fishing and boating, and non-consumptive pursuits like camping and canoeing. Although designed primarily for women, the workshops are open to anyone 18 years and older, with participants ranging in age from 18 to over 80.
The BOW program is a non-profit outreach education initiative at UW-Stevens Point, supported by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
