Bernice E. Zakrzewski, 85

Bernice E. Zakrzewski age 85, of Stevens Point, passed away Friday, August 27, 2021, at St. Michael’s Hospital.

Bernice was born December 28, 1935, at the family farm home in Chili, Wis., the second oldest of Ezra and Edith (Moss) Schilling. She graduated from Granton High School in 1954.

Bernice married Richard Zakrzewski on August 25, 1959 in Waukon, Iowa. The couple moved to the Junction City area in 1966.

She worked at St. Michael’s Hospital and later in the supportive home health care field. She also worked various positions at the family-owned Blue Top Motel & Supper Club, she retired in 2005.

Richard passed away in 2006 and Bernice moved to Stevens Point. She is a member of Frame Memorial Presbyterian Church and was active in the Presbyterian Woman’s Organization, holding many offices, including president. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, birdwatching (especially bluebirds), nature walks, tending to flowers, baking cookies and pies, lunch with friends, and in later years listening to audiobooks and Wisconsin sports teams.

Bernice is survived by her children: Christine (Thomas) Wroblewski and their children: Dylan (Mallory DeWitt) Wroblewski and Ethan Wroblewski; Jane Zelinski, and her son Walker Zelinski; Walter (Desiree Laska) Zakrzewski: Caleb and Colton (Cassidy Radley) Zakrzewski. Her sister Betty Bartsch, her brother Gene (Janet) Schilling, and sister-in-law Carol Schilling. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, brother Louis, son-in-law Kenneth Zelinski and granddaughter Samara Zelinski.

Funeral Services for Bernice will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Frame Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1300 Main St., Stevens Point. Friends and family will gather to share memories from 10-10:45 at the church prior to services. Burial will be in the Guardian Angel Cemetery at a later date. All those attending the services at the church are required to wear a mask. Bernice would wish you to be comfortable, please dress as you wish.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice or to Frame Memorial Presbyterian Church.
