Bay Port ends SPASH girls soccer season in regional playoff
By Patrick Lynn
Stevens Point Area Senior High’s girls soccer season came to an end Tuesday with a 5-0 loss to Bay Port in a WIAA regional match.
The host Pirates controlled the match from the opening whistle, scoring early and maintaining pressure throughout. Bay Port outshot SPASH 11-3.
Goalkeepers Campbell Spees and Brooke Weiler combined for six saves for the Panthers.
“Conceding that first goal so early put us in a tight spot that we never really recovered from,” SPASH coach Bill Loss said. “Bay Port was able to apply a lot of pressure and we did not handle it well. I told the girls that tonight was their night — they were the better team.”
Despite the postseason loss, Loss praised his team for its accomplishments this season, which included capturing the Wisconsin Valley Conference championship for the first time since 2018.
“But tonight’s result doesn’t define them as players or us as a team,” Loss said. “We had a great season that included winning the Wisconsin Valley Conference. Games like these serve as a reminder of the work that needs to be done for us to continue to grow as a program.”
SPASH finished the season with a 12-4-1 overall record.
