NELSONVILLE – The Rising Star Mill, Portage County’s oldest flour mill, will host the popular “Barns of Portage County” exhibit during its annual open house from Oct. 4-6.
Visitors can explore the mill each day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and learn about the county’s agricultural history. Volunteers will be available to answer questions and guide visitors through the space.
“History, heritage, and community really come together during this event,” said Portage County Historical Society Executive Director John Harry. “We hope folks can make it out to experience this unique slice of our past and enjoy our historic mill.”
The mill, built in 1868 by Jerome Nelson, for whom Nelsonville is named, has been owned by the Portage County Historical Society since 1985.
The open house will also feature refreshments for purchase. The event is free and open to the public.
The historic mill is located on County Q in Nelsonville.
