Anton Anday, 77
Anton Anday, born June 4, 1944, in Pilis, Hungary to Antal and Margit (Mohl) Anday, passed away on September 22, 2021, in Stevens Point with his family at his side.
Anton immigrated to the United States in 1959 with his mother, brother, and sister. Settling in Merrill, Wisconsin, Anton graduated from Merrill Senior High, earned his BA Degree from Mount Senario College and MA from the UW-Stevens Point.
He married Mary Beth Fulk on August 7, 1976, and they had two children, Maggie and Tony.
Anton spent 33 years teaching social studies in the Stevens Point Area School District. His students were always very important to him and he enjoyed knowing many of them beyond the classroom. He was active in many community groups. He chaired the Groundwater Citizen’s Advisory Committee in the 1980s. He joined the Sister City for Rostov-Veliky group and made several trips to Russia to establish an educational exchange program. Anton and Mary Beth hosted Russian and Japanese exchange students and several other visitors from Rostov-Veliky through the years.
He served as a Village of Plover Trustee from 1999-2020, and then again for another four years in his later years. The last elected position he held was as a County Board member. He participated in Portage County Leadership programs and helped develop the Teen Leadership of Portage County program. He poured his heart into learning, teaching, and preserving the history of Portage County as he took on the task of managing Heritage Park in Plover. He was always willing to give anyone a tour and explain the significance of the buildings there. He was honored many times for his participation and leadership in his profession and community.

Immediate family survivors are his wife Mary Beth, daughter Maggie Fletcher, son Tony and daughter-in-law Taryn along with two grandchildren, Miles and Nora. He is further survived by his brother Alex (Carol) Anday, sister Georgine Kurland, nephew Sean Anday, two nieces Sharon Anday and Shelly Anday Kaster, brother-in-law Steve Fulk, and sister-in-law Patti Fulk.
Preceding him in death were his parents, an older brother who died in infancy, and two beloved brothers-in-law, Lester Kurland and Michael Fulk.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021, at St. Bronislava Catholic Church. The Very Rev. Ed Shuttleworth officiating. Private family burial will follow in the Plover Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at the Pisarski Community Funeral Home, 2911 Plover Rd., Plover., and from 10 a.m. Friday morning at St. Bronislava Catholic Church until the time for mass.
As per family requests, masks will be worn Thursday evening at the funeral home and again on Friday during the funeral mass at St. Bronislava Church.
