Metro Wire Staff

An annual shredding party held at a downtown business brought in some big bucks to benefit local Catholic schools.

Schulfer & Associates, LLC Financial Professionals, a local retirement planning and investment firm, hosted their 13th annual shredding party on May 11. Shredding services were provided by Express Recycling Solutions, Inc.

To keep with the theme of the event, “shredded” food was also sold during the event.

This year’s event raised over $4,500. More than $44,000 has been raised over the past 13 years the event has been held.

The funds, according to LouAnn Schulfer will be used to purchase security system for the front entrance of the high school, robotics kits for middle-schoolers, playground equipment for preschoolers, math materials, new technology equipment, a new software system for the libraries of the schools, and more.

The spring-cleaning shredding party allows individuals and businesses to bring sensitive recordkeeping documents to be collected, shredded, and recycled.

This year, over 10,000 pounds of documents were brought in. Collectively, the event has shredded over 149,000 pounds of paperwork, she said.
