An annual shredding party held at a downtown business brought in some big bucks to benefit local Catholic schools.
Schulfer & Associates, LLC Financial Professionals, a local retirement planning and investment firm, hosted their eighth annual shredding party on May 10. Shredding services provided by Express Recycling Solutions, Inc.
To keep with the theme of the event, “shredded” food was also sold during the event, and entertainment was provided by the Pacelli Catholic High School Pep Band.
This year’s event raised over $3,000.
The funds, according to LouAnn Schulfer will be used to purchase Library World: an online database system for use in the libraries of Pacelli Catholic Schools. Students at Pacelli chose the beneficiary each year, she said.
“This [database] will allow books to be tracked electronically and have a central database system for all Pacelli’s libraries, allowing students to check out books across multiple buildings,” Schulfer said. “Teachers, students and parents alike have expressed their excitement for this new system with the efficiency it will create and the enhancement for students to use the resources of the libraries.”
The spring-cleaning shredding party allows individuals and businesses to bring sensitive recordkeeping documents to be collected, shredded, and recycled. This year over 11,435 pounds of documents were brought in.
Collectively, the annual shredding events have raised over $20,600 for Pacelli Catholic Schools, and over 80,000 pounds of documents have been shredded and recycled, Schulfer said.
“We’ve already been asked if we’ll do it again next year, and yes, we are thrilled to give back to Pacelli Schools, who’ve given so much to our community for over 145 years,” she added.
