Metro Wire Staff
Get ready to step back to the days of “The Great Gatsby” and “The Charleston” as the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Department of Music invites you to experience the 1920s.
Offered at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, “Experience the Music of the ’20s” is the annual Music Department fundraiser, formerly known as Soirée Musicale. It includes a reception with hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, followed by a concert in Michelsen Hall at 7:30 p.m. and an after-party featuring desserts and a cash bar. It will be held in the Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St., Stevens Point.
The evening highlights the talents of music faculty, students and alumni, and features music such as “The Charleston” and works from Louis Armstrong and musicals such as “Show Boat.” Attendees are encouraged to wear attire from the 1920s.
Admission is $50 per person or $25 for UW-Stevens Point faculty, staff and students, and includes the concert, pre- and post-performance receptions.
Tickets are $65 at the door. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit http://tickets.uwsp.edu. To become a sponsor, contact Maggie Marquardt at [email protected] or 715-346-3056.
All proceeds fund scholarships, primarily for incoming first-year students, which enable UW-Stevens Point’s Music Department to recruit and retain some of the region’s most promising musicians.
The event has raised more than $300,000 for music scholarships since its inception.
