Andrew Glenn Katzer, 53

Andrew Glenn Katzer, 53, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 31, 2025, at his home in San Francisco.

Andrew was born Oct. 22, 1971, in Stevens Point, Wis., to Eugene and Rosaland (née unknown) Katzer. He was the youngest of nine children.

He attended elementary and junior high school in Stevens Point. In 1985, he moved to the San Francisco area with his parents and sister, Jennifer. He graduated from Northgate High School of Mount Diablo Unified School District in Walnut Creek, Calif., on June 19, 1989.

Andrew became a paralegal after graduating from high school. In his later years, he worked as a personal attendant helping elderly and disabled individuals.

Family remembers Andrew as a happy child, always smiling and making those around him laugh. His brother, Dan, taught him to ski when he was about 7 years old, recalling him as a natural skier. He loved music and often talked about the many concerts and music festivals he attended, one of the benefits of living in the San Francisco area. He shared his wide-ranging taste in music with others.

He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hiking and kayaking. He often spoke of his travels to Europe when he was younger and how much he enjoyed those trips. He loved animals, having had both dogs and cats as pets.

Andrew had a devoted group of friends who expressed their love for him and deep sadness at his passing. One friend said he was loved by everyone. His family and friends said his passing was difficult as he was taken too soon.

Andrew was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Rosaland. Survivors include his siblings, Lynda Jessen, Pamela (Gene) Clark, David (Caroline) Katzer, Penny (Rick) Penick, Cindy (John) Evans, Jean Katzer (James Braga), and Jennifer (Jeff) Herron; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate Andrew’s life will be held Sept. 29, 2025, at Shuda Funeral Chapel, 3200 Stanley St., Stevens Point. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11 a.m., with the service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Guardian Angel Cemetery, where Andrew will be laid to rest near his parents.
