City residents will see two familiar names on the April ballot.

Incumbent Mike Wiza dominated the Feb. 21 primary race for Stevens Point Mayor, coming away with 2,276 votes—nearly 50 percent of the ballots cast on Tuesday.

Wiza advances to the April 4 spring election to face Meleesa Johnson, who garnered 1,366 votes in the contest.

Wiza is running for his third term as Stevens Point Mayor and previously served several terms as the city’s 4th District representative on the city council and as a Portage Co. Supervisor.

Johnson was first elected to represent the city’s 5th District in 2016 and won her third full term in 2021. Simultaneously, she also served three terms on the Portage Co. Board of Supervisors. She is not seeking another term on the city council.

The third candidate, Craig Tesch, finished the night with 929 votes.

Also surviving the primary were six of seven candidates for the Stevens Point School Board of Education:

Gee Pope, 4,179
Alex Sommers, 3,712
Miguel Campos, 3,641
Chris Scott (I), 3,628
Ted Kowalski, 3,451
Robert Larson, 2,395
Colin Kobishop, 1,313

The results of the Feb. 21 primary are unofficial until next week’s canvass board confirms the results. The spring election will be held on April 4.
