STEVENS POINT — Acting Sgt. Alex Beach was promoted to probationary sergeant on Nov. 6, celebrated by a roomful of current and former coworkers, family members, and friends at the Stevens Point Police Department.

Chief Bob Kussow led the ceremony, recognizing Beach’s dedication, hard work, and commitment to the department’s values since he joined in January 2017.

“This promotion is a testament to his dedication,” Kussow said. “The role of police sergeant comes with great responsibility…to lead a shift, set the standard, and ensure the safety of your officers and the community we serve.”

Beach, who began his career with the department in 2017, has held specialized roles, including as a SWAT team member, a field training officer, and a SWAT sniper. His extensive community involvement was also highlighted, with Kussow commending Beach’s long-standing volunteer work with the Wisconsin Special Olympics, where he has organized events like the annual torch run.

In his letter of interest, Beach acknowledged the importance of steady leadership as the department continues to grow and adapt. “Our department is changing rapidly, and I feel it is my responsibility to do as much as I can to help this department grow and change with it,” he wrote. “I believe in leading by example and feel there’s a need for officers to step up into these positions…so there’s a smooth transition through these changes.”

As a probationary sergeant, Beach will lead a shift of officers and serve as the first line of support during critical situations. “You’ll be expected to lead with compassion, a quality you already have,” Kussow said.

Following the formal oath, which was administered by City Clerk Kari Yenter, Beach expressed gratitude to his family for their unwavering support.

The ceremony concluded with refreshments, allowing attendees to congratulate Beach on his new role.
