ALERT: Residents asked to be vigilant on a suspicious vehicle, activity

STEVENS POINT – The Portage County Sheriff’s Office is looking into reports of a suspicious vehicle seen just north of Stevens Point, Sheriff Mike Lukas said Friday.
According to Lukas, deputies received calls on consecutive days about a white Nissan with a man—believed to be Hispanic—going door to door. A possible female passenger was also reported in the vehicle.
Some residents reported the individuals appeared to be canvassing and encouraging people to vote, while others raised concerns that they were looking into windows and possibly casing homes, Lukas said.
Some people reported the man was wearing a hoodie, and not dressed as an electioneer likely would be.
“We are trying to establish anything on this,” Lukas said. “If residents on the north side see this white Nissan and someone going door to door, they can call us so we can verify if they are electioneering or if there’s something else going on.”
Lukas noted that a similar white Nissan was reported in a separate incident earlier this week, in which a driver was seen following someone and flashing their lights.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Portage County Sheriff’s Office at 715-346-1400.
