Adaptive gaming program launches in Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT — Midstate Independent Living Choices is rolling out a new adaptive gaming program aimed at making play more accessible for adults with disabilities.

The initiative, supported by a grant from the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, will provide specialized equipment ranging from custom video game controllers to adapted dice for tabletop games. Organizers say the goal is to make gaming an inclusive experience that fosters creativity, connection, and fun.

The program kicks off with Let’s Play! An Accessible Gaming Event on Oct. 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the MILC offices, 3262 Church St. The free event is open to adults ages 18 and older and will feature both video and tabletop games, including Dungeons & Dragons.

“This is about ensuring everyone can participate, regardless of physical ability,” said Eric Riskus, independent living program director at MILC.

Founded nearly three decades ago, MILC is a Stevens Point–based nonprofit serving 11 counties in central Wisconsin. Its mission is to empower people with disabilities toward independence.
