For the Metro Wire
Introduce your child to playing an instrument this month during a free open house for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Aber Suzuki Center.
Held from 2-4 PM on Sunday, Jan. 21, at the Central Wisconsin Children’s Museum on Main St. in Stevens Point, the event will begin with an instrument “petting zoo.” Children may stop in at several different instrument stations to try each one and collect a passport stamp for a prize at the end.
Families may also meet center faculty and listen to a performance by current Suzuki students.
Openings are in flute, harp, guitar, viola, violin and voice as well as early childhood classes, which offer children from birth to age four experiences in singing, playing rhythm instruments and loving music with their parents. The Suzuki method encourages music study in a nurturing environment, with parents working closely with their children.
Anyone who registers for lessons at the open house will get a $50 tuition rebate for spring lessons. A $99 certificate for four 20-minute lessons will also be available to those who just want to “try out” music lessons.
