PLOVER — Weather in central Wisconsin is often remembered in moments — a bitter January cold snap, a humid stretch in July, the first measurable snow that finally sticks. But when the numbers are added up, yearlong weather patterns often tell a quieter, more revealing story.

Weather conditions in Plover during 2025 finished close to long-term averages, with slightly warmer temperatures overall, near-normal seasonal snowfall, and below-average precipitation during the second half of the year.

The average temperature for 2025 was 46.2 degrees, about 0.5 degrees above normal. The warmest temperature of the year reached 98.1 degrees on June 22, while the coldest reading fell to –18.4 degrees on Jan. 21.

Monthly temperatures tracked closely with climate averages through most of the year. Late spring and early summer leaned slightly warmer than normal, while January and December remained well below freezing.

Snowfall in Plover is measured on a seasonal basis from July through June. The 2024–2025 snowfall season totaled 48.8 inches, closely matching the long-term seasonal average of 49.9 inches recorded at the Plover site since 2003.

Winter outlook follow-up

Looking ahead, the national climate outlooks suggest a mixed winter pattern for central Wisconsin. According to outlooks issued by NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, temperatures for January through March 2026 are forecast to have equal chances of being above or below normal across Wisconsin, including the Plover area. This indicates no strong signal favoring a warmer- or colder-than-average late winter.

Seasonal precipitation outlooks show near- to slightly above-normal precipitation potential across portions of the Upper Midwest, suggesting periodic opportunities for snowfall as winter continues.

What “equal chances” means

When outlooks show equal chances, it means there is no strong climate signal favoring above-, near-, or below-normal conditions. In these cases, historical averages remain the best guide for what to expect.
