Stevens Point firefighters on Thursday extended to the downtown Elks Lodge a helping hand—or rather, a ladder.

Firefighters stopped by on Aug. 2 to assist Elks Lodge 641 retrieve its American flag, which had been stuck at full-staff for several weeks due to a malfunctioning pulley system.

Firefighter Ben Molnar was elevated to a height of approximately 30 feet in the air to collect the flag and return it to the lodge; then he removed the system of pulleys and ropes that allow it to the raised and lowered.

The lodge plans to replace the flag as soon as possible.
