UW-Stevens Point students to host TEDx event on campus

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will host its second TEDx event on Saturday, April 13, offering six speakers on topics with the theme “Outside the Box.”

The event will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Encore Room of the Dreyfus University Center. Organized by the TEDxUWSP student organization, the event is open to the public.

Tickets are $20 for the public and $15 for students. Light refreshments will be available beginning at 10:15 a.m. Tickets are available at http://tickets.uwsp.edu.

Speakers with university ties and beyond will discuss a variety of topics, including:

· Trent Podskalan, Baldwin Hall director: “Vulnerability is the Strength of our Weakness”
· Srinuan Saokhammnuan, a 2014 communications graduate: “Hopes and Opportunities A Proud Stateless Alumna”
· Nick Myers, ’16, founder of RedFox Creative, Madison: “Artificial Intelligence: The Final Tool”
· Coreyne Woodman-Holoubek, human resource executive with global business experience: “Be the Best Human YOU Can Be”
· Michael Rust, executive director of the Winnebago Conflict Resolution Center: “A. Ham, Pork and Sausage: Recipe for Saving Democracy”
· George Kraft, water resources professor emeritus: “Unmanaged High Capacity Wells are Drying Our Lakes and Streams”

TEDx events were launched in 2009 to make independent, volunteer-organized TED talks available within communities. The TED organization began as a nonprofit conference in 1984, and now sponsors thousands of free presentations on YouTube on various topics.
