The Stevens Point School District on Friday announced several schedule changes to help contain the COVID-19 pandemic.

Beginning on March 13, all athletic and after-school activities, as well as community use of district facilities, is canceled through April 12.

Students will be on spring break March 16-20. When spring break ends, students will take classes online via the district’s E-learning system until at least March 29. The district may allow in-person classes to resume March 30, according to a news release from the district.

The district is also canceling all planned travel outside of the school district and all out-of-state student trips, and all community organizations that have reserved school buildings for events will be canceled through April 12.

Bliss Educational Services Center, 1900 Polk St., will also be closed to the public.

In the interim, district staff will complete thorough disinfection of each district building, which includes a “complete outside air purge,” and the interior of all school buses will be sanitized.

“We understand that this is a significant inconvenience to families,” a statement from Superintendent Craig Gerlach reads in part. “Continue to watch for updates over the next two weeks. Information is changing rapidly, and it is likely we will be communicating frequently. We appreciate your patience as we work to provide safe and healthy learning environments in our schools.”

For families without an internet connection, Charter Spectrum is offering 60 days of free broadband access for students beginning Monday, March 16. To enroll, call 1-844-488-8395.
