Police Seek ID of Fraudster

Stevens Point police are looking for a man suspected of stealing a woman’s purse and fraudulently spending money from her checking account.

The purse contained a student ID, debit card and checkbook, and was taken from Top Hat Bar, 1346 3rd St. in Stevens Point, sometime between 10 PM and midnight on Dec. 7, according to Sgt. Anthony Zblewski.

Shortly after midnight on Dec. 8, the debit card was fraudulently used to purchase gas.

In the following days, several checks from the woman’s stolen checkbook were forged for additional purchases at locations of Kwik Trip in Plover and Wisconsin Rapids, Zblewski said.

Several days later, the woman’s school ID card, debit card, and checkbook were found by staff at the Winnebago County Highway Department.
