The 2019 Pink Game for Cancer raised over $44,000 for local charities.

This year’s game, between UW-Stevens Point and Wabash College football teams, was held Sept. 14, sealed a full decade of fundraising—a joint effort between Team Schierl, BSN Sports, the UWSP Pointers Football team and UWSP Athletics.

Each year the Pink Game raises money through corporate sponsorships, as well as the sale of specially designed t-shirts sold prior to the game and on game day. A silent auction of locally donated baskets, vintage football helmets and Pointers game-worn pink jerseys, also took place on game day.

Throughout the week leading up to the game, “Pink Week” is supported by the UWSP students and faculty as they participate with promotions on campus, the renaming of Fourth Ave. to “Pink St.” between Reserve and Division streets, and through a collaboration with the Youth Area Football league.

Charities benefitting from this year’s event include The Breast Cancer Family Foundation (bcff.org); promoting cancer awareness and prevention; youth health class presentations to thousands of central and northern Wisconsin students; The American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge in Marshfield, Wis., providing a free home-away-from-home for cancer patients and their families; and the UWSP Be the Match and UWSP Love your Melon student organizations.

In addition to the total donation of $44,239.51, an additional $1,000 check was presented during the post-game ceremonies. The UWSP Pointers and Team Schierl worked with visiting team Wabash College to coordinate a donation to the American Cancer Society in Indianapolis in honor of a current member of the Wabash team battling cancer.

“We are so humbled by the ongoing support we have received from the community, UWSP, and our sponsors,” said Tim Schierl, Team Schierl Companies Co-CEO. “Coming together in the fight against cancer is what it’s all about. We all know someone that is impacted by cancer in some way and to witness the support we receive, is unbelievable.”

Sponsors of the event were Team Schierl Companies and BSN Sports, with additional support provided by U.S. Autoforce, BMO Harris Bank, Great Lakes Coca-Cola, Connexus Credit Union, Bio Life Plasma Services, Old Dutch Foods, and Bushman Sign and Graphics.

Team Schierl Companies was established in 1956 by John “Butch” Schierl in the home heating oil business. TSC is currently owned and operated by John’s three sons, Tim, Fritz, and Bill Schierl.
