Peeping tom released on cash bond

By Brandi Makuski

Portage Co. deputies have taken a 55-year-old man into custody for allegedly filming a woman inside her home.

Law enforcement responded to a home in the Bluebird Acres Subdivision, which is located on the east end of Porter Rd. in the Town of Plover, shortly before 9 p.m. on Oct. 2, after a 41-year-old woman called to say she suspected someone was watching her from outside.

Deputies located tracks leading to a nearby residence and made contact with the suspect, identified as  Randall Cherney, who admitted to placing a ladder outside of the woman’s window and using a video camera to film her, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Cherney is facing charges of capturing intimate representation and violation of privacy. He was released Friday on a $3,000 cash bond set by Court Commissioner Janet Roberts. As a condition of his bond, Cherney is prohibited from having any contact with the victim or her property, possessing any camcorders, and recording any images of other people without their consent.

The investigation is ongoing, according to Deputy Chief Ben Beaudoin, as several similar incidents have been reported in the neighborhood over the past few years.

Anyone with information should call the Portage County Sheriff’s Office or Portage County Crime Stoppers at (888) 346-6600, or by using the P3 app.
