Monteverdi to perform seasonal concert virtually

By Patrick Lynn

The Monteverdi Master Chorale this week has announced its 2020 winter concert, which will premier on Facebook to avoid spreading the coronavirus.

“A Season for Song” is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12 on the Chorale’s Facebook page. The concert is being held free of charge to the public, but donations to the Chorale are encouraged at MonteverdiChorale.org.

The concert, held under the direction of Dr. Cody Miller, artistic director, will feature a large ensemble performing Gregorian chant, an arrangement of “Lo, How A Rose,” and a variety of selections from smaller ensembles and soloists.

Miller said the pandemic has prevented the group from rehearsing in person, forcing the group into some unique situations.

“The absence of traditional, in-person rehearsals has reminded us of the importance of singing and music,” he said. “Music has always been a respite from the challenges and stress we face. We hope that Monteverdi Chorale’s virtual winter concert will offer hope and joy, and once again usher in the holiday season for you and your family.”

The concert will be recorded and produced Thousand Lumens Productions of Stevens Point.

The Chorale plans more performances next spring. More information can be found at MonteverdiChorale.org.
